Sabres vs. Thrashers 10-17-09 Postmortem October 18, 2009

We all knew they couldn’t win every game, right? The Sabres turned in what would best be called “uninspired” and at worst called “totally uninterested” effort, and it showed in the score.

Yes, I know Ilya Kovalchuk is a Sabre killer, but seriously? To have no idea where he is a on a power play? To let him sneak right into the slot so he has a point-blank shot at the net? Oy.

I wonder how many of the guys had hot dates last night. They certainly weren’t interested in a hockey game against Atlanta.

Liked:

  • Um. Hmmmm.
  • Clarke MacArthur got another goal.
  • Yeah, I’m out.

Didn’t like:

  • Top-to-bottom effort.
  • Goaltending. Lalime didn’t get a lot of help, but he let in four goals. Not a good first showing.
  • Tyler Myers. Are you shocked I put him under “didn’t like”? This was the first game where he looked truly mismatched. And please, for the love of all things good, teach him how to block a shot. Toni Lydman, it’s time for some personal lessons after practice.
  • Derek Roy. Stop bitching at the refs.
  • Passing. Their passes looked like they were done by a team of drunken six-year-olds.

The Sabres’ coaching staff will have plenty of time to break down this game, as the team doesn’t play again until Wednesday in Florida. They won’t play another game at home for two weeks. I hope they like room service. Florida is not usually kind to this team – let’s hope last night wasn’t the start of a losing streak.

I don’t think Florida usually gives the Sabres hell…it has always been Atlanta. Actually not Atlanta, but Hedberg. His record against the Sabres is now 11-2-1. He is amazing against this team and I don’t get why.
