Sabres vs Flames 11/13/09 Postmortem November 13, 2009

I have to admit, I thought the Sabres would get totally manhandled by Calgary’s defense. I was proud to see them fight back. I’m starting to think Tim Kennedy is a little punk, and I like that.

We went to the Pirates game yesterday. Tooootallly forgot to use the Sabrebucks card for our food. Sigh.

  • The Sabres sticking up for each other.
  • Shots 17 to 4 in favor of the Sabres after the first period, forcing the Flames to have a closed-door meeting during the intermission. Brent Sutter is not known for being soft, so I’m guessing it was an ugly scene. I love ugly scenes, when they happen to other teams.
  • The MacArthur-Roy-Pominville line. There’s no quit, and they were giving Calgary’s defense fits.
  • Steve Montador. He’s been all over the ice in the last couple of games.
  • The penalty kill is improving.
  • Adam Mair, doing what he’s expected to do. And he tore the guy’s jersey. Rowr.
  • Paul Gaustad. Defending teammates, blocking shots, winning faceoffs. It’s all in a day’s work for the Goose.
  • The Hurricanes losing in OT. It’s probably mean to pile on, but considering the history, I feel justified.
  • Jochen Hecht. His mojo is back. He’s the player he was a couple of years ago, and that’s a very good thing.
  • Maraschino cherries – one of life’s perfect foods.
  • Calgary taking a penalty in overtime. Dumb, dumb, dumb. It’s hard to hide it when you trip Tyler Myers. The whole world feels it when he falls.

Didn’t like:

  • Olli Jokinen’s mustache. Like the other night’s bad mustache, it makes him look dumb.
  • The power play (in general) is not improving.
  • This whole “let’s take lots of penalties in the second period” strategy.
  • The vanishing act that is Thomas Vanek.
  • The Geico commercials with the money with eyes. My one-year-old could come up with something more effective.
  • How many chances will Pominville get before he actually scores a goal? Eesh.

Aaaand they’re off to Philly. More Ray Emery. Yay./sarcasm

All right. I’ll allow the mustache then. That doesn’t excuse Patrick O’Sullivan’s mustache the other day, unless he’s participating as well. I’m a cancer survivor, and I’ll support pretty much anybody who wants to do anything to raise money for cancer.

Thanks for letting me know!

I don’t know about Jokinen but some of the Oilers are participating in Movember, a moustache growing charity event held during November each year that raises funds and awareness for prostrate and testicular cancers. So it looks silly but it looks silly for a good reason.
