It’s a good thing I’m not working tomorrow, or this game would be a tough one to stay up for, especially since I have a pounding headache.

I spent much of the first ten minutes of the game saying, “Oh, that’s where he went,” (Rob Scuderi, Brad Richardson, Michal Handzus) and “He’s still playing?” (Ryan Smyth). I love playing Western Conference teams – you get to see players you totally forgot were still in the league and some of the exciting rookies who you haven’t been able to watch develop.

Liked:

  • Lots of shots. They’ll start going in.
  • Jochen Hecht seems to be going well tonight. Maybe being named to the German Olympic team really meant something to him.
  • In typical fashion, the Sabres come out with guns blazing to begin the second period.
  • No goal. Hee.
  • Drew Stafford and Clarke MacArthur are playing well. Haven’t scored, but both are going tonight.
  • Yay! Craig Rivet! Hey – that rhymed!
  • Ok, getting a point is good. Now let’s work on two, boys.
  • Ryan Miller saves their bacon again. I think in this battle of Team USA goaltenders Ryan Miller wins. Not by much, but he wins. By the way, I’m feeling pretty ok about Team USA’s goaltending. The rest of the team is not a medal-winning team IMO, but the goaltending should really help. My Olympic preview is coming up, probably this weekend. I know you’re all waiting with bated breath.

Didn’t like:

  • The giveaways 10 feet in front of your own net? Not a good idea, guys, just in case you were wondering…
  • A two-on-none during a power play. Huh.
  • The Sabres have had the puck a lot in this first period but have done very little with it.
  • These Kings announcers are practically giving fellatio to the hometown team for their play in the first period. It’s 1-o. Settle down.
  • Halfway through the game, Gaustad is at 30% on faceoffs. What’s up with that? He’s slipping lately. Roy’s not much better at 33%.
  • Tim Connolly, Toni Lydman – they’re pretty similar, right? Apparently the Kings announcers think so.
  • Just a thought: don’t let the entire Kings team crowd within five feet of Ryan Miller, k?
  • Seriously, how many mistakes will Lindy let Chris Butler make before he replaces him with Andrej Sekera?
  • I’m sure I sound like a broken record, but the Sabres are taking penalties at bad times. It has to stop.
  • I really don’t like these announcers. I miss RJ.
  • Did the Sabres WANT to go to a shootout? That’s certainly what it looked like. Eesh.

Congrats to Jason Pominville, affectionately known in these parts as “Pommer” and “Pommerdoodle”, for his 300th consecutive game. Apparently drinking copious amounts of Pedialyte is the key to a healthy career. Who knew?

One point is better than none. They didn’t deserve to win that game, and they didn’t. On to San Jose. The games aren’t getting easier from here – SJ, Vancouver, and then back home to play New Jersey. Gear up!

I wish the Vancouver game was on Saturday because I have been waiting forever for that game to come around. I can’t wait.

I thought the announcers were a bit much, too and I watched the game with the sound muted. They did sound as if they were going to crown Miller King at first. I’m getting to dread shootouts. Ack!
