I don’t think we’ll be as lucky as we were the other night and have Alex Ovechkin uninterested in playing another game. Yes, our D did a good job keeping him to the outside but my feeling is – if he really wanted to get to the inside he would’ve found a way.

Liked:

  • Wow – gorgeous poke check there, Jordan Leopold! I’m LOVING this Montador/Leopold pairing. I know I’ve mentioned that before but it bears mentioning again.
  • Hee. Goose wins a faceoff with the butt end of his stick.
  • Montador leads the NHL in plus/minus? Well, how ’bout that. Bet he’s up pretty high in blocked shots too.
  • I’m ok with all these pucks going out of bounds. It means the Caps can’t get any momentum going. Not that it seems to be hurting them an awful lot, but…
  • Mike Green can’t handle Thomas Vanek and takes a penalty. I like it. And then they make him pay with a nice pass from Vanek to Roy.
  • McCormick doesn’t let Ovie let to the inside either. Hee. This amuses me.

Didn’t like:

  • Did Mike Green just make a competent defensive play? Say it ain’t so!
  • It could be my bias talking but that Myers penalty seems to have occurred because the dude is 6’8″ and 230 pounds. And Nicklas Backstrom isn’t.
  • Why, in the latter part of that 5-on3, did Lindy Ruff use Grier instead of, say, Roy or Gaustad as his forward? And why did he leave Montador and Leopold out there? Why didn’t he trust Sekera and Morrisonn to kill some time?
  • Re: the Caddyshack imitation. I recommend Ryan Miller not quit his day job.
  • Hmmm. 3-0. Might be time to start worrying. Lack of quality scoring chances is not good.
  • I can’t even imagine how jarring it is to get hit in the mask with a puck.
  • Gaustad is not fleet of foot.
  • It seems like there was an awful lot of sloppy passing today.

It was a pretty good game. Well, other than that first period. On to the next game…

Yes, it was a good game but it should be a bit of a wake-up call. You can’t count on being 2-3 goals down and then battling back to tie, winning in OT. Gotta find a way to score more goals earlier. You’re killing us, guys!

FYI– If the Sabres offered me the captaincy of the team, I’d turn them down.

according to espn’s box score, the sabres only had one giveaway. this baffles me.

This baffles me as well. Was Darcy Regier the stats keeper?
