Let’s be honest: when the Sabres signed Jordan Leopold, did any of you think to yourselves, “Hey, this is going to be a GREAT signing!” I’ve followed Jordan Leopold throughout his career, and I was pleased when the Sabres signed him, but I never thought he would work out as well as he has so far.

I’ve also followed Steve Montador’s career, and I’ve always liked him as well, but I think it’s the two of them together that really makes the difference. Neither one of them is particularly huge or particularly fast or particularly skilled – it’s more that they’re a good combination and that they make up for the other’s weaknesses. They work well together. They can play offense and defense. They can eat up minutes and be utilized in a lot of different situations.

One of the best things of all? They’ve taken some of the pressure off of Tyler Myers so that he can work through his growing (hee) pains. And that’s worth its weight in gold.
