Sorry I haven’t been posting more. Real life is getting in the way. But today I’m here, and I’m ready to roll!

Liked:

  • WHAT a play between Vanek, Montador, and Pominville. When I saw all those passes I started to groan, but they converted.
  • Early in the game Enroth is coming up with some big saves.
  • Montador seems to make his defense partner better, no matter who the partner is.
  • Niedermayer scores! Niedermayer scores! *checking outside for pigs flying*
  • I like Lindy using some different guys on the penalty kill. There’s no reason guys like McCormick can’t kill penalties.
  • Sabres with some good offensive zone pressure here in the third period.
  • Enroth makes some timely saves to keep the Sabres in the game in the third period.
  • Montador showing good desperation, diving at the blue line to get the puck out of the defensive zone.
  • I like that they’re shooting from EVERYWHERE.
  • I’m going to give that fight to McCormick by unanimous decision…
  • WOW – what a save by Enroth! If they lose this game you won’t be able to blame it on goaltending.
  • DREW Stafford!

Didn’t like:

  • Poor Vanek. He’s got, what, fifty people there watching him and he misses a gimme.
  • Not a real impressive power play, guys.
  • Enroth had no chance on either goal so far.
  • Punching people is a penalty, Tyler Myers.
  • Ouch! I hope Kaleta is okay. That looked super-painful.

Sabres WIN in OT 3-2. On to Pittsburgh!

I’m doing a million other things while I watch this game, so I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to make too many great observations, but I’ll do what I can. 😉

Liked:

  • The guys came out with some jump. Maybe losing that Colorado game pissed them off. That would be nice…
  • The play from Niedermayer to McCormick was a nice one and McCormick made a good decision shooting. Luke Adam kept going to the net and cashed in on the rebound. Kids: this is why you keep going to the net.
  • Jochen Hecht makes a nice play and SCORES A GOAL! Yes, you read that right.
  • They’re crashing the net. Yay!
  • Pominville makes a nice play to get the puck out of the zone. Kudos to the guy he passed it to (I missed who it was) for being in a position to accept the pass.
  • The Sharks are getting smothered at every turn. Hopefully that will increase their frustration level and thus their penalty-taking. I approve of this.
  • I’ll give Ryan Miller credit. So far he’s made the saves when the Sabres needed him to.
  • I like Vanek and Pominville playing together. I never understood why they didn’t play together more.
  • Did they offer a bonus for hitting tonight?

Didn’t like:

  • Mike Weber needs to see Rob Ray for some boxing lessons. Kudos for not backing down, but he didn’t win that fight.
  • Tim Connolly has been pretty weak on faceoffs for the past couple of weeks. He’s at 29% after one period, 33% after two. Jochen Hecht joins him in Suck-land with a 29% win rate after two periods.
  • I don’t like Dany Heatley. That is all.

Now THAT was the kind of road game the team should be playing more often. Well done! On to Phoenix on Saturday! Say Hello to BizNasty for us!

The Sabres are on another Western road trip. Now, before you go committing hari-kari, let me say this: use a sharp sword.

Liked:

  • The Sabres come out with some pep and pressure yet another back-up.
  • Wow – the power play actually scores quick! Woo-hoo!
  • Vanek seems to like playing in the high altitude. He’s got some jump in his step.
  • WHAT a shot by Pominville. I think the population is steadily climbing now…
  • Whoa – I like that Montador isn’t shy about shooting the puck…
  • Question to ponder: How many cross-checking penalties does Thomas Vanek draw each year?

Didn’t like:

  • Sekera had a tough first period. I think he’ll recover though.
  • Sabres in penalty trouble=bad.
  • Why is Ryan Miller flopping around like a catfish in heat? (NO idea if a catfish goes into heat, BTW)
  • Isn’t Grier/Gaustad/Niedermayer supposed to be our top checking line? They’re trapped in the Sabres end.
  • Gotta love phantom penalty calls… “Drew Stafford, two minutes for being on the ice!”
  • I’m not sure I’m a fan of playing seven D consistently, but I suppose it can’t be too much worse than playing Nathan Gerbe…
  • Tyler Ennis owes Luke Adam a BIG steak.
  • UGH. Just UGH.

The Sabres are off to San Jose. If I remember correctly they like playing there. One point’s better than no points, but it’s only a small consolation.

I’m coming into this postmortem having listened to the first ten minutes on the radio. I have to say, this doesn’t sound good.

Liked:

  • Even though they took penalties I’m happy to see the guys stick up for Miller. As Rob Ray said, Florida should remember that they have a goaltender too.
  • Well, that was a strange couple of minutes. At least the Sabres got a goal out of it.
  • Nice play by Montador to prevent a breakaway. He’s a “most eligible bachelor” according to Buffalo Spree!
  • Other Sabres eligible bachelors: Tyler Myers, Tyler Ennis, Shaone Morrisonn, Derek Roy, and Andrej Sekera. When asked about their hobbies/favorite activities, both Myers and Sekera mentioned sleep. I bet they’re exciting dates!
  • Yay! Pommer on the power play! Good boy! And just like that the Sabres are back in the game 3-2. Huh. How about that?
  • I might love Jordan Leopold a little. I definitely have a crush on the defensive pairing of Leopold and Montador. Nice play by Myers to get the puck to Leopold for that second goal.
  • Apparently all Niedermayer needed to play well was some Christmas spirit.
  • Florida has had no shots in the last thirteen minutes. This makes me happy. Almost giddy! Especially since in that time the Sabres have taken about the same number of shots on the Panthers and scored three goals. Yes, Amanda approves.
  • They just showed a stat for shots in the second: Buffalo-19, Florida-1. They just got another one that Ryan Miller saved, but still – two shots in the entire period? Methinks the Panthers might be running out of gas. How sad. HAHAHAHAHA
  • Myers just took a shot and I can’t believe it didn’t decapitate anyone. My, my.

Didn’t like:

  • Memo to Paul Gaustad: putting your team two men short twice in about 10-15 minutes is not good and does not show leadership. Just so you know…
  • Hmmm. Down 3-o with five or six minutes left in the first. They can come back from this, but I have a bad feeling they won’t.
  • How did Niedermayer not score that goal? Oh. Cuz he’s Niedermayer.
  • According to Rob Ray, Lindy’s first intermission rant was way worse than Boudreau on 24/7. WOW.
  • I hope Derek Roy is not hurt badly. I didn’t see what happened.

WOW, that suckkkkkeeedddd. The Sabres are going on a West Coast road trip right after Christmas, and they rarely play well on those. Sigh. Their chances of making the playoffs are getting worse and worse, folks.

It’s Lindy Ruff’s 1000th game, boys. Let’s try not to suck.

Lovingly,

Amanda

Liked:

  • Aw, cute Hank sighting! I suppose I could’ve put that under “Didn’t like” but it’s Hank. How can you not like Hank?
  • Nice  pass by Kaleta out of the corner to Ellis. It resulted in a scoring chance. If Gaustad didn’t have hands of cement that might’ve turned into something.
  • Roy submarines Kovalchuk and comes out with the puck. Alrighty then!
  • Every game Cody McCormick does something that makes me fall in love with him just a little bit more. This time: a key shot block. Le sigh. Defense.
  • Yay! Good Pommer! And Connolly, I’ve give you credit for stickhandling on your knees. I give credit where credit’s due.
  • Double yay! Roy scores from the blue line with a bomb!
  • Two goals in 13 seconds makes me giddy. We want three!
  • Hey, Niedermayer did something! Nice goal by Tyler Myers, sneaking in from the point. How a guy who’s 6’8″ can sneak anywhere is beyond me but he seems to do it with regularity.
  • The Two Ty’s strike again!
  • Pominville ties up the puck nicely on the penalty kill. Remember when he and Roy used to play “Keep Away” when they were paired on the penalty kill? I miss those days.

Didn’t like:

  • Whoa. That was almost some very, very bad luck for Shaone Morrisonn. Luckily it wasn’t. HAHAHA
  • Vanek: you are FIRED. FIRED for passing that puck. You hear me? FIRED
  • Does Marty Brodeur even fit in that chair? Eesh.
  • I just noticed Mike Grier played tonight. There’s 10 seconds left in the game.

And the guys got a win for Lindy, with a biggggggggg assist to Ilya Kovalchuk for his HILARIOUS blooper at the end to seal the game. Well played, Mr. 100 million dollar man!
